The market promotion conference and fraternity of the cooperation between Tsinghua MBA program and enterprises, hosted by Tsinghua MBA Programs and undertaken by the Public Relations Committee of the 12th Tsinghua MBA Student Association, opened with in a friendly and heated atmosphere at 1:30 p.m. on July 9th, 2009 in Room 418 in Shunde Building of Tsinghua SEM. Gao Jian, assistant dean of Tsinghua SEM, Zhu Yan, standing deputy secretary of communist party committee, and Gao Xudong, director of MBA Programs attended the meeting and made important speeches. Relevant persons in charge from MBA Programs and the Chairman of the 12th Tsinghua MBA Student Association also attended the meeting and gave talks. Delegations from 30 or so well-known enterprises both home abroad including IBM, China Growth Capital, Startimes, etc. Journalists were also invited to be present.

Before the meeting, leaders of the school, teachers from MBA Programs, CDC and Alumni Office held a warm discussion with representatives of companies. They briefly exchanged ideas and thoughts on the communion of brands, project cooperation and talents cultivation and so forth. At 14:30, the meeting began with the speech titled "The Development and Advantages of Tsinghua MBA" delivered by assistant dean of Tsinghua SEM, Professor Gao Jian. He traced back the journey that Tsinghua MBA project has taken so far and introduced the characteristics of new MBA so that the companies were able to experience the constant efforts Tsinghua University has put to promote MBA education and its spirit of keeping pace with the times. Following the speech, Zhu Yan, associate dean of Tsinghua SEM, Mao Donghui, executive director of MBA Programs, Xie Qihong, executive director of international MBA Program, Yun Tao, deputy director of MBA Programs, and Zhangbo, Chairman of the 12th Tsinghua MBA Student Association gave a detailed description on coordination of the practice projects, CHINA-LAB Program, THINC-LAB Program, promotion of brands and orientation of MBA respectively.

To start with, assistant dean Gao Jian expounded on the advantages of Tsinghua MBA. It enjoys rich educational resources and solid comprehensive strength and its students have outstanding qualifications. Consequently, Tsinghua University has been continuously providing talents and transforming university resources into market competitive power of companies through various ways, such as market survey and research study, to meet the needs of enterprises. Meanwhile, the cooperation between university and corporation is of great assistance to a helpful environment and more opportunities for Tsinghua MBA education, which greatly promotes the development of MBA.

Next Zhu Yan, associate dean of Tsinghua SEM profoundly illustrated the point of coordinating practice programs. The coordination is among the list of priorities of new Tsinghua MBA, which is compulsory for all Tsinghua full-time MBA students. Under teachers' guidance, students draw out business plan. Thus students can master specific operation approaches like business mode and optimization of administrative procedure, which is a win-win opportunity both to corporations and MBA students.

Mao Donghui, executive director of MBA Programs, explained what the consultative project of CHINA-LAB is. The program is jointly run by Tsinghua SEM and MIT. Usually the student groups will discuss the schedule and presentation mode of the research project given by the enterprise. A contact person will also be selected for coordination between students and the enterprise. Following this, students from both universities will start the two-week on-site research including making investigation and interviews, data collecting and analyzing, etc. Oriented by the needs of the enterprise, the group will complete the research in five weeks with research report and advice for the enterprise. CHINA-LAB combined the traditional mode of commercial learning classes and the learning mode of on-site practicing. On the one hand, the program will not only demonstrate and improve the talents of students from both Tsinghua and MIT Sloan School of Management, but also give help to the development of the enterprise. On the other hand, the enterprise will also look forward to finding some talents for recruitment through the research project.

Delegates from the enterprise show interest in the brand new form of the research. For example, Tang Ning, the CEO of China Growth Capital enthusiastically remarked, Over these years in which China Growth Capital and Tsinghua SEM keep their cooperation, he got two ideas that are significant for the development of an enterprise. First, the creative ideas must not only be correct but also be carried out by an iron hand, which is also reflected in the management of students affairs in Tsinghua. Second, China Growth Capital encourages students from Tsinghua to develop creative thinking which will help the enterprise to broaden its vision and think creatively from a global view.

Xie Qihong, executive director of international MBA program, made an in-depth exposition titled ‘The commercial mode in China and the case developing project’. Aiming at the best commercial mode in China, this program takes the local elite enterprises in China as its research objects. So far, 10 enterprises including Aigo, Siemens, Lenovo, and Wal-mart China have joined in the project.

Yun Tao, deputy director of MBA programs, presented Tsinghua’s MBA program, the so-called ‘the improvement plan for the brand of enterprises’. Following the university motto ‘self-discipline and social commitment’, the program pursues high quality and consistent improvement. The enterprises also advertise themselves toward Tsinghua through the project, in which their social influence and brand names are improved.

Zhangbo, the Chairman of the 12th Tsinghua MBA Student Association, introduced the development of the association, the details of the orientations of freshmen initiation of 2009 and all forms of partnership with enterprises. 

 

 

Gao Xudong, the director of MBA Programs, made a wonderful speech titled ‘the economic situation and the responding strategies’. He remarked that one of the most important thing to notice is that a good environment for communication is a must for the development of enterprises both at home and abroad. Both MBA education center and MBA students should take heart to learn experience from the enterprises. For the enterprises, since the competition of talents will be the most important in the future, enterprises should support and partner with each other for further development.

This conference recommended for the enterprises a few cooperative programs that will improve the brand names for both sides. More enterprises start to see the potential commercial value of partnering with China’s top MBA education. This is also an important step forward in the process of China’s MBA education approaching the enterprises and the market. Everything goes as expected. After the conference, some delegates further consulted the director Gao Xudong and other teachers for details in a few projects and expressed their willingness to cooperate.
