Jul 12, 2020

On April 12, 2007, MBA graduates from top US schools visited Tsinghua to discuss the value of the MBA education.  The graduates, who have been working in China in management for several years, discussed the value of the American experience in the China market.  In additionthe event also included a valuable question and answer period with Tsinghua students.

Attendees included, James Qin (HBS),Yanchao Zhao (HBS), Fred Rao (Stanford), Min Chen (Yale), Long Wong (MIT) ,Andy Tian (MIT), Vivien Wang (Kellogg), and Jor T Law (Columbia).  The graduates were all surprised to see a diverse international crowd in attendance.  Once speaker said, “I was expecting to see an all male Chinese crowd, but am delighted to see a good number of both female and international students.”

The main conclusions of the event were that networking experience is one of the most important things a student can do during the MBA.  The speakers all mentioned that Tsinghua’s alumni circle included very powerful and influential graduates, and can be one of the most important tools as China continues its economic development.  One student, an undergraduate from Tisnghua asked the panel that in the future she was considering doing an MBA in either China or the United States and wanted to know their feedback.  Fred Rao responded, “If you want to live in the United States, then perhaps you should go to the US for business school.  But if your goal is to work in China, I can't think of many good reasons to leave China right now.”
