Dean QIAN Yingyi presents to LI Rongrong the Letter of Appointment

From March 2003 to August 2010, LI Rongrong had served as the first Chairman of State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission for seven and a half consecutive years. Since he left his previous position, he had expressed to the media in many occasions that he would like to attend lectures at Tsinghua SEM.

"My willingness to study at Tsinghua derives from two thoughts. First, for all these years I have been thinking on how to produce Chinese entrepreneurs with international competitiveness. An entrepreneur cannot succeed or develop well without global spirit and vision. Thus I would like to attend SEM lectures related to internationalization of enterprises,” LI Rongrong said, “Second, I am also wondering how we can further promote corporate reform among Chinese enterprises.”

Therefore, in academic year 2010-2011, LI Rongrong attended seven courses offered by EMBA program at Tsinghua SEM, such as “Theory and Practice in Socialist Economy” by Professor QIAN Yingyi and Professor LI Daokui, “Introduction to Management” by Professor YANG Bin, “Microeconomics” by Professor NING Xiangdong and etc. In the lectures, LI Rongrong joined heated discussions with his EMBA classmates and shared with them his thoughts on specific issues.

After completing the seven EMBA courses, LI Rongrong planned to give lectures himself for EMBA program at SEM, starting from 2011 Fall Semester. He aimed to combine in his course both his professional experience and his theoretical background to convey practical knowledge to the entrepreneurs and managers coming to study at Tsinghua SEM. LI Rongrong expected that through his planned course, the EMBA students could improve their all-round thinking and problem-solving abilities as well as broaden their global horizon.
