On the morning of December 21st, the Dean of Tsinghua SEM, QIAN Yingyi, along with Executive Senior Dean Chen Guoqing and Associate Dean TONG Yunhuan, organized a round table discussion with twenty IMBAs. The focus of the meeting discussed the changes that are taking place within the IMBA program. In addition, the Deans closely listened to any feedback and answered any questions the MBA students had.
The vision of the Tsinghua SEM International MBA, as explained by the Deans of Tsinghua SEM, is to become the best MBA program in Asia, and one of the top global business schools in the world. Dean QIAN Yingyi talked to students about his recent trip to Harvard Business School, where he was recently asked to be on the HBS' board of advisors. He commented that "HBS only has one course on how to do business in China. And in that course, the majority of the case studies are ones that were created by Tsinghua University." His plan is to create a much closer relationship between schools such as HBS and our partner school, M.I.T. Next year, on January 4th and 5th, HBS MBA students will come to Tsinghua SEM and participate in a full day of activities with Tsinghua International MBA's.
Another topic discussed during the meeting was the increase in elective courses offered to International MBA students. For example, McKinsey Consulting and Tsinghua SEM have created a partnership to offer four seminars next spring to International MBA students on management consulting and strategy. Also discussed in this area includes the hiring of western professors in a number of areas, including human resource management, which is a serious problem for many corporations in China.
An area that was raised by students was a request for there to be a closer relationship between the International MBA program the Tsinghua’s Executive MBA program. Many of the EMBA participants at Tsinghua are the leaders in China's economy and could be a substantial resource for students wishing to know more about different business sectors in China.
The Deans hope to plan similar meetings with IMBA students in the future.
