The last class of “Analysis of Pillar Industries Series – Observing the World Auto Industry through BMW” ended in the afternoon of November 21 which marked the completion of the 4th “BMW Top Voices”. Professor JIAO Jie, the course instructor and the Associate Dean of Tsinghua School of Economic and Management (Tsinghua SEM) and Ms. ZHANG Lei, the Executive Director of MBA Programs acknowledged the contribution of BMW China and expressed their expectation for future collaboration.

The last session of the course is “Purchasing & Supplier Network” which was delivered by Mr. Philip Eller, the President of BMW China Services Ltd. and Group Senior Vice President of BMW AG. Over 80 Tsinghua SEM students joined the sharing and class discussion.
“BMW Top Voices” was co-developed by Tsinghua SEM and BMW China to study the development process and current status of the auto industry and its related businesses and explore their future trend using BMW’s development, operation and competition as a case study and platform. The course is aimed at stimulation to the students to think, verify and integrate knowledge and skills learned in other classes when they were analyzing and studying the management, operation and competition of a world class company.

2013 marked the 4th year of the collaboration between Tsinghua SEM and BMW China. Professor JIAO and BMW China jointly designed the course with eight lectures and two field study trips and coordinated the course delivery. Senior executives from BMW China branch and BMW joint venture company were invited as guest speakers and covered different topics in management related areas, including "Strategy and Leadership", “A New Era for Auto Industry”, “Strategic Financial Services in Automotive Industry”, "Alliance, Cooperation and Joint Venture", "Dealer Development in China", “Sales and Marketing Strategy" “BMW Group R&D Strategy in China”, and "Purchasing & Supplier Network". The speakers engaged the students in active dialogues in the classes and often heated discussions.
Field Study Trip in BMW Tiexi Plant in Shenyang
In addition to the eight-lecture sessions, two field study trips were organized by Professor JIAO to BMW Tiexi Plant in Shenyang and a 5S Dealer Xingdebao in Beijing which gave the students a firsthand opportunity to understand and study the manufacturing and operation processes of the auto industry.
The unique course design and delivery of “BMW Top Voices” attracted over 80 domestic and oversea students, including students from MBA program, Finance and Management Master Program and other departments at Tsinghua University, such as the Department of Automotive Engineering. After four years collaboration between Tsinghua SEM and BMW China “BMW Top Voices” has acquired broad awareness and good reputation among Tsinghua students.
