On September 12, 2015, the finale of the“Tsinghua MBA • CreditEase Small and Micro Businesses Empowerment Project Management & Consulting Contest”, co-hosted by Tsinghua School of Economics and Management (SEM) and CreditEase, was successfully held at SEM.

Empowerment Project for Small and Micro Businesses is a combination of intellectual resources and experience from Tsinghua MBA students and the needs of small and micro enterprises for survival and development., with MBA students providing targeted external consulting services for enterprises. Under the guidance of "participation, cooperation, high efficiency, and multi-win", the project highlights social responsibility and encourages MBA students as well as the case enterprises to reach agreement for long-term cooperation. Since the project started on August 25 2015, 24 MBA teams have achieved one-on-one supporting model with 24 small and micro enterprises. After 18 days of intensive research, interviews and group discussion, as external consulting teams, each team presented various kinds of results, solutions and suggestions for the small and micro enterprises . 

The guests and judges that attended the final included ZHANG Jin, professor of Tsinghua SEM, ZHANG Lei, the Executive Director of Tsinghua MBA Programs, LIU Dawei, Senior Vice President of CreditEase, TANG Jincao, Managing Director of Redbud Capital, Tsinghua Holdings Fund of Funds, and WANG Yan, partner and Senior Vice President of Allpku Consulting Group. Also in attendance were representatives of the case companies and over 200 Tsinghua MBA students of 2015. LIU Tiancheng, Tsinghua MBA alumni of 2012, was invited as the host of the contest. 

LIU Dawei, Senior Vice President of CreditEase, said in his speech on behalf of the sponsors for this event that small and micro enterprises are important in domestic economy. Numerous, and with diverse forms, they play an irreplaceable role in employment and enriching the people. In the past 6 years, CreditEase has always maintained in-depth cooperation with Tsinghua University, and has launched Empowerment Project for Small and Micro Enterprises four times, tailoring for the enterprises with valuable external consulting solutions, and offering plans and suggestions for the enterprises’ development. In their research, Tsinghua MBA students proposed solutions for the enterprises with a positive, humble and accommodating attitude, and devoted a large amount of time and energy to it. On the other hand, the spirit of small and micro enterprises, who are striving for the best, also had great influence on the students. Both companies and students have significantly improved themselves during the whole project. It is believed that they all benefitted a lot from it.

After the contest began, 10 Tsinghua MBA student consulting teams presented their "high-end customized" consulting solutions one by one for the small and micro enterprises. These solutions, targeted the problems these enterprises are faced with -- the rising operating costs, the dilemma of human resources management, the pressures of enterprise transformation, and a series of other management difficulties – and tailored feasible solutions. There were bursts of applause for their presentations. Judges and case companies also interacted with students from each team, and highly praised them for their performance, as well as for the form of the contest.

Professor ZHANG Jin, one of the judges, commented after the contest that the case study conducted by the students not only offered a comprehensive analysis of the market, but also gave an in-depth analysis of their rivals, fully displaying the all-around quality of Tsinghua MBA students.

WANG Qun, General Manager of Beijing Eagle Times Engineering Co. ltd., also talked about his feelings on behalf of small and micro enterprises. He pointed out that the development of small and micro enterprises is difficult, and the enterprises need financial and personnel as well as other kinds of support. After the founder established its business, there often would be no escape for them. Therefore, he wanted to express his gratitude especially to the Tsinghua MBA Programs and CreditEase for providing such a platform so that small and micro enterprises could learn and grow together with Tsinghua MBA students. It is worth mentioning that during the whole consulting process, students have pointed out some traps that the enterprises might fall into during their development, which could help enterprises avoid many mistakes.

At the end of the contest, according to the scores from the judges on the spot, and the grading from case enterprises for students’ research and results, the consulting solution from team 6 "MaiTeng Group 6" proposed for Milestone Technology Co. Ltd., stood out and eventually won the first prize of the contest. The judges and guests presented the winning team with a trophy and certificate of honor.
