Tsinghua Harvests Friendship in Asian MBA Football Cup

    On March 16 of 2012, team members on behalf of Tsinghua MBA Football Club arrived in Hong Kong to participate in MBA football tournament of Asian top business schools. They thus commenced the 4-day match and related communication activities.

Visiting and communication with schoolmates in Hong Kong

Mr. Yang Hao, schoolmate of Tsinghua MBA(2001 PMBA) and vice president of China Construction Bank (Asia) hosted a banquet for the team on their arrival in Bankers’ Club in Central. Another 4 schoolmates in Hong Kong also participated in the banquet. They introduced in detail the culture and local economy in Hong Kong. Football team members reported their MBA learning and living circumstances in Tsinghua. Altogether they retrospect the past and talked about the memorable experiences during MBA education in Tsinghua. The communication was so pleasant that the team members almost forgot their fatigue after travel. After the dinner, Tsinghua MBA Football Club gave schoolmates the jerseys of commemorative edition with emblem of the Club.

     Comprehensive description of the match

  The football court of Hong Kong University of Science & Technology is the most beautiful campus court in Asia. However, the match goes on intensely in particular with such beautiful scenery. In this session of the football match, Tsinghua MBA Football team is the only team with each team member having a Chinese origin. In other teams, the percentage of European and American team members surpasses 40%. Tsinghua SEM, CEIBS, HKUST 2013, Credit Suisse (sponsor team) and HKUST ALBUM were allocated into the 2nd group.

During the 4 matches inside the group in the morning, with the tenacious fighting spirit and active go-in-hard, Tsinghua MBA achieved 3 equal scores and 1 minus 1 score(a penalty kick in the match against HKUST ALBUM). Compared with tall and strong foreign athletes, team members of Tsinghua paid painful price. Mr. Xiong Wei of 2011 PMBA Class 2 got shovel injury on both feet and could not continue the match. Mr. Jia Lin of 2011 FMBA Class 1 quitted because he broke his ankle in confrontation. These circumstances made Tsinghua MBA team composed of 11 members ran out of athletes in layout. Followed the group match was the last match in the afternoon to decide the ranking. Tsinghua’s opponent was NTU. In this critical moment, Mr. Xiong Wei offered to take the responsibility of goalkeeper and released an athlete to participate in the attack. Besides, the cheer squad in Hong Kong arrived in time. They shared the same passion and fought together. Mr. Yi Bo as a forward scored twice before the end and finally Tsinghua beat NTU by 2:0.



Mr. Jia Lin who broke his left foot but insisted on cheering other team members with an ice bag on his foot.


   Communication with other schools during the match

   During breaks, Tsinghua MBA communicated and exchanged with other top business schools in Asia, improved the mutual understanding and established friendship and connection utilizing sport as a platform.     Through this match in Hong Kong, on the one hand, Tsinghua MBA Football Club accumulated the experience against overseas competitors and fulfilled the run-in of the team. On the other hand, with this football cup between top schools, Tsinghua MBA communicated with other Asian top business schools and conducted mutual learning and advancement in many aspects.
