Special Course “Tsinghua-NCCU MBA’s Business Perspectives”

“Tsinghuayuan is such a beauty in Spring”Ms. Ji Huiwen from Taiwan expressed her appreciation the moment she saw the campus. From April 9 to April 15, 18 visitors, including Ms. Ji Huiwen and other MBA faculty and students of Taiwan National Chengchi University (hereinafter“NCCU”) came to Tsinghua SEM to undertake the one-week communication and learning by means of a curriculum entitled “Chinese Mainland and Taiwan Business Perspectives” with Tsinghua MBA students.

The “Chinese Mainland and Taiwan Business Perspectives” curriculum is the second unit course Tsinghua SEM cooperates with Business School of National Chengchi University (hereinafter “NCCU Business School”) with the objective to strengthen the communication between students of Mainland China and those of Taiwan as well as to improve their social, economic and cultural knowledge and understanding. Altogether 16 MBA students from Tsinghua SEM and 16 MBA students from NCCU participated in this curriculum and all the participants were grouped into 8 teams to hold discussion and research about hot business issues in Mainland China and Taiwan.

On the first day of the curriculum, hosted by Prof. Yu Chunling as the leader of Tsinghua SEM delegation, 16 students from NCCU shared their understanding and analysis of business in Mainland China based on 8 topics including the financial markets in Mainland China and Taiwan, retailing business, economic scenario, human resources management, entrepreneurship, politics and legal systems, cultural value and its influence on business as well as marketing and business communication. The research undertaken by students of NCCU was so well prepared and quite detailed that it was highly appreciated and admired by Tsinghua MBA students.

In the following week, with the arrangement of Tsinghua MBA center, students of Mainland China and Taiwan who participated in this curriculum listened to 4 lectures with designated topics. These lectures were “Macroeconomic Environment in Mainland China” by Prof. Liu Lingling, “Competition and Innovative Strategies of Chinese Enterprises” by Prof. Gao Xudong, “Development of Electronic Business and its Application in Retailing Business” by Prof. Jiang Xuping and “Company Finance and Business Modes of Chinese Enterprises” by Prof. Zhu Wuxiang. Besides, faculty and students of NCCU and Tsinghua visited ADFAITH, Guodian United Power Technology Co. Ltd., Ienovo and Baidu, discussed and communicated with their persons-in-charge and management levels. All these companies were impressed by the sharp perception and positive attitude of MBA students of Mainland China and Taiwan.

After this study trip, the participants will continue their communication on the internet, deepen the research based on their team report and integrate all kinds of information collected in the process of investigation, including classroom teaching, discussion, communication between cooperative teams and company visiting and survey. Students of Tsinghua SEM will finish PPTs of the 8 topics of “Chinese Mainland and Taiwan Business Perspectives” and make themselves ready for the visit to Taiwan in October.

This curriculum built a communication platform for MBA students of NCCU and Tsinghua and improved their understanding of different social, economic and cultural environment in Mainland China and Taiwan. The MBA students who participated in this curriculum enjoyed profound friendship which laid the foundation for future development of this curriculum and similar activities between  NCCU Business School and Tsinghua SEM.
