Tsinghua MBA Aixin Club: Teaching Children of Migrant Workers as Volunteers
Jul 13, 2020

Led by Wang Min, president of Aixin Club, a squad of Aixin Members consisted by more than 10 people went to Xingzhi Experimental Gongcun Primary School to teach children of migrant workers as volunteers. Among them, two employees from Yunong’s company, Charlie and Anthony just came and join after being briefed about what Aixin Club was about to do. Mrs. Li, headmaster received us with great welcome and introduced us to Class 5 Five Grade Six.

Right before the class was started, Aixin club donated 100 notebooks and pens as well as ten footballs with Hao Haidong’s signature, a former player of national team.

Charlie and Anthony were able to attract children’s attention by their authentic American accent. Beginning with introduction of Thanksgiving Day, they introduced the whole picture of this traditional American holiday. With Anthony’s vivid imitation of a turkey, the children learned a lot of new English words and more importantly, how to show thanksgiving to the beloved ones.

Jess Yu, an international student from IMBA program, introduced one of the interesting funny games to the children. They learned how to cooperate with team members and compete as a whole. Liu Xue, one of the winner said, “I learned how to cooperate with classmates from the game.”

Coming back to the classroom, students was taught the English song of Jingle bells. Since they are already very familiar with the Chinese version of this song, they simple had to memorize and learn the English lyrics first and then they could catch on.

Time was too short, the quality time we spent together made it very hard to say goodbye. They waved us goodbye with books and pens in hand. (Contributed by Jimmy Hope, Tsinghua-MIT MBA Program Class of 2014)
