In the lead-up to The Economist’s China Summit, The Economist launched the essay writing competition inviting students worldwide, and particularly in China, to submit essays expressing their own views on the forward-looking topic of “China's Economy Will Overtake America's Within a Decade?”. Over 150 essays were received and judged by Economist editors. 6 Tsinghua SEM students were awarded as top 10 in the essay competition.

The award-winning students are YAN Shuo (MBA Class of 2014), WANG Jian (MBA Class of 2014), ZHANG Peng (MBA Class of 2014), Matt Hunter (MBA Class of 2013), CHENG Wei (MBA Class of 2012) and TANG Yanhua (Doctor Candidate).

The Economist’s annual China Summit was held on January 17th 2013. Tsinghua MBA Programs coordinated with Economist’s China Summit for the first time as the co-university partner. More than 200 senior international business leaders, government officials and academics, including FU Ying, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China and Gary Locke, United States Ambassador to China, gather at China Summit to examine China’s future direction and the implications of China’s once-in-a-decade leadership change.
