Former Chinese premier Zhu Rongji’s memoir Zhu Rongji on the Record: The Road to Reform 1991-1997 (English Edition) was launched in New York on September 9, 2013. Professor QIAN Yingyi, dean of Tsinghua SEM, and Professor YANG Bin, senior associate dean, were present at the ceremony.
Zhu Rongji is the Founding Dean of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University (1984-2001).He served as mayor of Shanghai from 1987 to 1991, then was China's vice premier, and served as the fifth premier of China from 1998 to 2003.
At the ceremony, Zhu made a videotaped speech in English. Speaking in English, Zhu expressed his thanks to all those who have contributed to the publication of the book, especially to his old friends Henry Kissinger and Helmut Schmidt, who wrote forwards for his book. To express his gratitude to all attendants, he said, “The fact that you came today shows that you still remember me and my people.”
The former premier said he had not added "a single word" to the original speeches which were included in the book because he wants this book to accurately record history as it happened.
The four-volume Chinese edition of Zhu Rongji on the Record was published in 2011. It's a collection of speeches, articles, letters and instructions from Zhu during his tenure as vice premier of China from 1991 to 1997. The 464-page English edition includes more than 100 articles tied to his vice-premiership selected by Zhu himself from the Chinese edition.
