On August 30, the school song of Tsinghua University resounded through the lecture hall of Tsinghua SEM as the Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013 Opening Ceremony was held with great rejoicing. Under the foil of a purple Chinese and English horizontal scroll entitled “Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013”, more than 400 Tsinghua MBA freshmen and Tsinghua MBA 2012 sophomores, who organized this opening ceremony, had a get together. ZHANG Lei, Executive Director of Tsinghua MBA Programs, and LIU Manxi, Associate Director of Tsinghua MBA Programs, attended the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony was held in both Chinese and English throughout the course, which was an important constituent part for Tsinghua MBA Programs to comprehensively push forward bilingualism of student service, and also a new measure to match with international construction and bilingual environment of Tsinghua SEM.
After presenters LI Qiang and ZHU Xiaolan, Tsinghua MBA 2012 students, announced the starting of the ceremony in both Chinese and English, Executive Director ZHANG Lei first delivered a speech. She said, “Tsinghua not only teaches courses and knowledge, but also fosters ideas and characters. Here you are going to experience an unrestrained and vigorous style of idealism and a down-to-earth style of realism, international broad view and deep feelings of patriotism. Learning is for how to behave. A person’s positioning relies on multiple aspects including wealth, knowledge structure, mental state, and cultural orientation. Culture is an ‘overall life style’ comprising of substance, knowledge and spirit. With a history of more than 100 years, Tsinghua has experienced numerous difficulties and struggles, and created a unique culture and tradition which have incorporated in each of her cells in a low-key, steady and dignified manner. Dear Tsinghua MBAs, please integrate yourself into the proceeding team, thus you will have a sense of belonging. Combining with clear knowledge foundation and thought dimensions, as well as thought sparkles and mutual support of fellow students, you will not lag behind no matter how many hardships and dangers you meet in the future, which may have a special meaning under the present situation full of uncertainties. In the coming two to three years, I hope that you will whole-heartedly experience and put into practice, not only see maidenhair trees of Tsinghua University and magnolia flowers of Tsinghua SEM, but also are truly close to Tsinghua University and Tsinghua SEM, experience breath of Tsinghua, and become a proud Tsinghua student.” After this, Ms ZHANG Lei delivered a speech in English for Tsinghua IMBA students.

Soon afterwards, LIU Manxi, in charge of student affairs, gave an introduction to the six constituent parts of Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013, namely, the newly introduced warm-up TechMark Business Acumen Course, Career Skills Development Series, Career Development and Social Responsibility, In-depth Campus Tour, Outward Bond Teambuilding Challenge, as well as the Integration and Interchange Activity. Besides helping the 2013 MBA students understand the study requirements and resources of Tsinghua MBA, LIU Manxi also inoculated new ideas on developing comprehensive management ability and social responsibility sense. All Tsinghua MBA 2013 freshmen were divided into 20 teams to participate in activities, share happiness, exchange wisdom, show enthusiasm, and start a wonderful MBA new life together! LIU Manxi was an excellent undergraduate of Tsinghua SEM before acquiring a master’s degree of Public Administration in Columbia University. She also gave an introduction to Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013 in idiomatic English.

Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013 was themed by “Dream Bigger, March Together”. SU Wentao (MBA 2012P2), chairman of the 16th Tsinghua MBA Student Union, explained the exclusive logo elaborately designed by fellow students for Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013. The design philosophy focused on “Dream” and “March”, with different colors full of tensions shaping a pair of rousing wings, symbolizing that Tsinghua MBA, a group full of diversities, collide and mix with each other in terms of experience and thoughts in the university. All students can find their own position here and raise dream sails at the Tsinghua MBA family.

Tsinghua MBA Orientation 2013 is characterized by a mode of senior students leading freshmen. Almost all activities are organized by members from the Tsinghua MBA Student Union. Throughout the whole course, these students were responsible for content arrangement, schedule design, coach recruitment and training, and management of the program implementation process. Members and coaches of the program management team are voluntarily taken charge by sophomores. After official appearance of 20 student coaches at the opening ceremony, the 2013 freshmen teams led by these coaches also showed their creative team names, slogans and models respectively. The ceremony scene was full of happy laughter and cheerful voices as well as climaxes.
At the end, all Tsinghua MBA 2013 freshmen attended an oath-taking ceremony in both Chinese and English.

Introduction to Tsinghua MBA Orientation
Tsinghua MBA Orientation, originated in 1999, is a major school tradition which is also the first, unique experience for new students upon entering Tsinghua University. Based on the objective of developing future leaders with overall management skills and capabilities, the Orientation aims to cultivate new MBA students’ sense of social responsibility, teamwork, business awareness, professional skills and raise their individual leadership and team management abilities. In addition, the Orientation helps new students to integrate into the Tsinghua academic environment more quickly, and foster networking and friendships among students.
