Tsinghua-MIT International MBA Commencement 2013 was held in Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management on the afternoon of July 16, 2013. Prof. QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, Prof. Kothari, Deputy Dean of MIT Sloan School of Management and Mr. Worker, Ambassador of New Zealand in China, attended the commencement and gave their speeches. Prof. Steven White, a foreign teacher from Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, was invited to deliver a speech at the commencement as teacher representative. The commencement was hosted by Prof. LI Jinliang, Associate Dean of Tsinghua School of Economics and Management. Moreover, several teachers from Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, staff from Tsinghua MBA Programs and over 100 graduates as well as their family members attended the entire course of the commencement.

In July 2013, 113 students from 18 countries and regions finished their studies at Tsinghua-MIT International MBA program. Prof. Kothari, Deputy Dean of MIT Sloan School of Management, flew from Boston to Beijing to attend the commencement. After sending congratulations to all graduates, Kothari gave a few suggestions on their future development, and he hoped that all graduates should have ambition, have responsibility and accountability, and always show their gratitude.

The Tsinghua-MIT International MBA Commencement also invited Mr. Worker, New Zealand Ambassador to China, to deliver a keynote speech. The topic of the keynote speech is New Zealand and China: A case study of win-win cooperation. By using the “case-based learning” method which was very familiar to these students, Mr. Worker analyzed and summarized the key elements for the successful cooperation between New Zealand and China to give some guidance for these students to go down their own roads to success.

The last commencement speaker was Prof. Steven White, one of the most popular teachers among Tsinghua-MIT International MBA students. His speech sparked an echo among these graduates, in a moment the commencement became a classroom where Prof. Steven White, on behalf of all teachers at the Tsinghua-MIT International MBA program, gave the “last course” before their graduation.
