On the evening of Dec. 1^st, 2008, there was a special lecture made by a special famous young man named Nick Vujicic at International Report Hall of Wenlun Building. Born with no arms or legs, Nick Vujicic travels the world to share his unique message that can change people’s life. At that night, the report hall was filled with audiences attending the lecture, which was just one stop of Nick Vujicic’s and his world tour team in China.

Nick Vujicic’s talk is a for-credit course at Tsinghua SEM, and also part of a project of the Red Cross Society of China. The name of the project is Sunshine in Your Heart.

Nick Vujicic’s began his speech in a humorous way. He mainly talked about his experience of life and his understanding of life. Born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, without any medical explanation or warning, Nick Vujicic came into the world with neither arms nor legs. Throughout his childhood Nick dealt not only with the typical challenges of school and adolescence such as bullying and self-esteem issues; he also struggled with depression and loneliness as he questioned why he was different to all the other kids surrounding him; why he was the one born without arms and legs. 

He learnt to deal with his disability and started to be able to do more and more things on his own, including obtaining a double bachelor degree majoring in accounting and financial planning. By the age of 19 Nick started to fulfill his dream of being able to encourage other people and bring them hope, through motivational speaking and telling his story. He is convinced that there is a purpose in each of the struggles we encounter in our lives and that our attitude towards those struggles can be the single most effective factor in overcoming them.

During the whole lecture, Nick Vujicic kept on asking attendance to think about questions, such as “who are you”, “what makes you—you”, “try again or give up” and etc. He said, “I have a spirit and I have a soul. Take out my tongue, take off my nose, reap off my ears, and take my eyes out, but you can’t take off my spirit and soul.” He elaborated the importance of faith and courage to people, and also showed his strong faith on life. His speech was inspiring and touching.

There were lots of big applauses again and again during the speech. Later, audiences had a chance to interact with Nick Vujicic, asking him a variety of questions, like “what is Nick’s next goal”. Nick Vujicic said he was going to write a book in recent months.

Nick Vujicic encouraged people through his words and his behaviors all around the world. He recently moved to California where he is the president of an international non-profit organization, and also has his own motivational speaking company; Attitude Is Altitude.
