Career Development Center Autumn Recruitment Fair

On November 17, 2016, the Career Development Center (“CDC”) at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (“SEM”) organized another successful installment of the annual Autumn Recruitment Fair. The objective of the event was to build a two-way communication platform for students and recruiting companies. The event started off with a 10-minute mini-seminar, with 12 companies handpicked from various industries to share their insights, giving students the chance to interact and better understand the hiring needs of each company while allowing the participating firms to demonstrate their growth opportunities.
This year’s recruitment fair involved 80 corporates, screened and selected, to provide over 300 internship and full-time opportunities for students. Participating firms included finance and strategic consulting companies such as Legend Capital, SWS Research, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, China Cinda Asset Management, Willis Towers Watson, and Simon-Kucher & Partners, foreign companies on the Fortune Global 500 list such as Schneider Electric and Carrefour, and top enterprises from China like HNA Capital, Vanke, and Suning Corporation. State-owned enterprises including Beijing Capital Operation and Management Center, Beijing International Trust Co. Ltd, Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co. Ltd and China Gezhouba Group Overseas Investment Co. Ltd were also there to unveil their recruitment needs and offer students the opportunity to actively interact with recruiters and better understand those entities.
Several educational start-ups expressed keen interest in participating the event, opening up executive positions such as Vice President, Branch Manager, and Director for recruitment. Furthermore, as business elites in the industry, many SEM alumni took this opportunity to introduce current students to their company and opened up recruitment opportunities to students.
Participating recruiters claim that Tsinghua SEM students possess outstanding qualities, industry expertise, strong analytical skills, and outstanding character. Over 70% of SEM students have international work experience or academic degrees from leading overseas universities. Such cross-cultural backgrounds were especially tailored to the needs of some recruiters.
To date, over 65 local and international companies spanning a wide range of industries have conducted recruitment events at Tsinghua, including McKinsey & Company, Goldman Sachs, Bain Consulting Group, KPMG, Siemens, Temasek Holdings, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, J.P. Morgan, Hill House Capital, State Administration of Foreign Exchange, UBS, Citibank, eFunds, Macquarie Group, Morgan Stanley, Samsung Global Strategy Group, Country Garden, Taikang Asset Management, Li & Fung, and China International Capital Corporation.
The CDC serves a critical function at Tsinghua SEM, dedicated to providing career support to SEM students. The CDC’s mission is to bridge students and employers by helping students attain and demonstrate professional capabilities and skills while making relevant employment opportunities more accessible to students by providing outstanding recruitment services for employers. In 2016, the CDC won the Outstanding Department Award at Tsinghua University. The Center organizes two major recruiting fairs annually – the Autumn Recruitment Fair and the upcoming Spring Recruitment Fair. In addition, the CDC also offers ongoing career advice and support, ranging from English and Chinese resume and interview workshops to MBA student counseling regarding internship and job opportunities.
